Brokeback Mountain

I went out this afternoon to walk around the Peak, then went to Yaumati's bookstores to browse through books; was planning to watch a movie but couldn't find one, as I've already watched "Brokeback Mountain" and "Pride and Prejudice." Ang Lee is my favorite director. He is a great artist who attracts me of being so humble. However, after watching "Brokeback Mountain," I don't understand what the fuss is about. It's an above average film, but far from a great one; and I think all the Oscar buzz is nowhere near justified.

Another thing I have difficulty is the theme of the movie. Is it about love between two men, or about the fond memories of young days in the Brokeback Mountain? Ang Lee said there's a Brokeback Mountain in everyone's heart. By that he obviously doesn't mean a gay persuasion. And I don't think he sets out to do just a gay movie. A gay movie, or any other types of movie, for that matter, to a great director is only a vehicle, through which he wants to express certain ideas of his own. So what does Lee wants to convey? What is his Brokeback Mountain? What are our Brokeback Mountains? This is something I have difficulty figuring out.
